Hello Darling, Where did August go? OMG! Iβm already mourning the loss of summer! β€οΈ Scammers Got Way TOO Close!!! This time last week, I was helping a client navigate a very shitty scam. He'd connected with a lady who seemed borderline but passable - these guys were good, I'll give them that. There was enough there to think she was real. She suggested they move their conversation off the app and onto text right away, which I don't like, because it's a scammer move. Without giving it much thought, he shared his real number. π΅βπ« When he told me, my immediate reaction was, "WhaaaatTF? You gave her your actual number?" He reminded me that I always advise to go with the flow and follow her lead. And, I did say that. But I also emphasize the importance of safety. Had he asked me about using his phone, I would have told him to get the Burner App from the App Store - FIRST!!!! They didn't move him to the Walmart card scenario, tho, so I relaxed. They then chatted for almost a week. Fast forward to last Sunday and their supposed meet-up. My client received a text while waiting in the hotel room for her. It was ugly.π«’ We assessed the situation and realized that if these scammers tried to blow up his life, he could easily report them to the police because he'd have nothing to lose if they did. Their primary goal was money. Creating unnecessary drama would only attract unwanted attention. The sort of attention that wasn't good for business. We figured if they lost him, they probably moved on to their next target. There's no point wasting energy on someone who walked away, only to risk your own neck. That was our theory, so he went with it. They'd also used a real number, which I know because I looked it up. I then called it later that night to see what would happen. I was pissed I'd missed their bullshit. I hid my number and built a crazy-bitch looking for her no-good man scenario. The first time they answered but didn't speak - obviously thinking it was my client. I launched into the first part of my act and went until they hung up. I called again a few minutes later, going a bit crazier until he told me I had the wrong number - but I had the right number. For anyone who finds themselves in a similar situation in the future:
